Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka a premier Health Science University in India was established on 1st June 1996 at Bangalore by the Govt. of Karnataka through its enactment of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka Act 1994 to encompass all the existing health science colleges and institutions which were earlier affiliated to the conventional universities in Karnataka with a purpose of ensuring proper and systematic instruction, teaching, training and research in modern and Indians systems of medicine.

RGUHS is first in its many folds such as: development of comprehensive structured curriculum for all the academic degrees and programs of health science disciplines being offered under its umbrella, establishing the State - of - the art Digital Library and HELINET Consortium to provide scholarly International medical literature of e-journals, e-books, databases, dissertations, thesis and previous examination question papers etc, with round the clock virtual access to all the students, teachers and researchers in their institutions affiliated to RGUHS in Karnataka, Computerization of examination systems, publishing of RGUHS scientific journals in the facilities of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Ayurveda etc, Promotion of NSS and sports activities and establishment of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Public Health.

RGUHS has the larger affiliation of 757 health science institutions offering various academic programs in the faculties of Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Nursing, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani, Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences, Siddha, Physiotherapy, Public Health and Health Science Librarianship such as Under Graduate, Post Graduate, Post Graduate Diploma, Super Specialty, Ph.D and Fellowship courses covering 1.3 lakhs of students in the State of Karnataka.
